This position is for the 2024-25 school year.
Principal certification is necessary to obtain this position.
This position is contracted 230 days and includes a 20% administrative increment.
Qualifications:
• Kentucky certification in Educational Leadership or Administration as appropriate for level/area of school vacancy
• Master’s Degree
• Certification in State & District Certified Staff Evaluation System
Supervises:
• Assistant principals and all other building level positions (including itinerant teachers while in building)
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serves as the instructional leader for the school.
• Implements Board policies and administrative procedures.
• Successfully manages the day-to-day operations of the school.
• Successfully manages all school budgets with a focus on student learning while adhering to federal, state, and local regulations including the Accounting Procedures for School Activity Funds (Redbook).
• Supervises and evaluates all building certified staff in accordance with the Scott County Certified Evaluation Plan and all building classified staff in the Scott County Classified Evaluation Plan.
• Maintains all requirements for ongoing certification in state/district evaluation system. First year principals may be given extension up to six months for initial training and successful certification upon approval of superintendent.
• Supervises itinerant teachers while in the school and provide feedback on evaluation to appropriate itinerant teacher supervisors.
• Serves as the chair of the SBDM Council (in schools with an SBDM Council) to set policies as required by KRS 160.345.
• Collaborates with all stakeholders to create and maintain a positive, collaborative school climate with a focus on student learning.
• Makes recommendations for the hiring of personnel to the Superintendent (after working in consultation with SBDM Council and other appropriate district personnel) on all building level positions.
• Recommends non-renewal of personnel to the superintendent on all building level positions.
• Collaborates with all stakeholders to create, revise, and implement a School Improvement Plan that addresses district goals and areas identified within the school’s needs assessment.
• Collaborates with all stakeholders to create, revise, and implement a school safety plan that addresses district goals and state and local emergency guidelines. Review and practice the safety plan with appropriate stakeholders.
• Collaborates with stakeholders to create opportunities for students to participate in co- and extra-curricular activities.
• Fosters good interpersonal relations among students, staff, and community.
• Maintains an awareness of factors outside the school which affect the school program.
• Keeps abreast of trends, developments and research as they pertain to education and school operation.
• Assists in the formulation of the school curriculum and other objectives of the schoolprogram.
• Develops methods for evaluation of student progress toward stated educational objectives.
• Maintains close contacts with all interested parties including students, school staff, parents and the community.
• Works with the staff within the building in the development of instructional goals consistent with district goals for the various levels and curriculum areas.
• Ensures the necessary resources including facilities, equipment, books, and supplies are available when required and properly maintained.
• Collaborates with other schools and program offerings, as appropriate, within the district to ensure student needs are being met.
• Supervises and oversees supervision of all activities and functions of the school.
• Oversees programs specific to school through SBDM, athletics, etc.
• Upholds and follows bylaws and guidelines of governing bodies to include the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (middle school guidelines) and other such entities
• Any and all other assignments, which may be made by the Superintendent and designees.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Strictly adheres to the Kentucky Certified Code of Ethics (704 KAR 20:680) expected for all certified and classified personnel
- Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking
- Requires ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, written language, and hearing
- Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations
- Requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light objects and students up to 25 lbs.
